Everyday Life

WE'RE DEBT FREE TODAY!!!!!

As of today....both the Brumbaugh household as well as Brumbaugh Lawn Care have completed Baby Step 2!
This is truly a testament to God's amazing grace and provision. Mark and I decided on Christmas day 2007 that we would begin the baby steps to financial fitness. We have shed many tears together as well as several sweet times of prayer for God to provide for us in specific ways. We have had LOTS of beans and rice...but all in all, we have enjoyed the process immensly! We are now on to baby step #3 which is saving for our emergency fund (3-6 months of expenses). So, not much will change in how we save and live...but at least we are now paying ourselves instead of a debtor!
I could go on and on about how wonderful it has been to deny the flesh in this very consumeristic culture we are in...but the Spirit is greater! I have had to tell myself that and pray through that promise over and over and over!
We didn't get to post about completing Baby Step #1...so this post will have to do!
We have met many Dave Ramsey fans fromthe community in the last several months and it has been a joy to meet and encourage/be encouraged by each of you. We can't wait to share in your success as you complete this step! Keep going!!! The feeling I have today is absolutely CRAZY!!!!! I can't wait to call in and scream on Dave's program!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and get the cool bumper sticker!:)
To our parents - Thanks for you support. We benefitted from your encouragement so many times...in so many different ways. Thanks for always pointing me to look upward to Christ...even when I felt like I had a spiritual crick in my neck!
To Deb and Adam...unfortunately, you are now in Hawaii so we can't have a crazy party to celebrate...but thanks so much for your friendship and encouragement along the path to financial freedom! I'll make sure you know when to listen to our DEBT FREE SCREAM on Dave's show!
Well...my hands are shaking with excitement as I type...Mark just got home and I shared the news with him...and he just smiled really big, huged all of us, and kept repeating...debt free, debt free, debt free!! We are going to go out and celebrate this big accomplishment by making a deposit at the bank...all of which is now truly income! Praise be to God for His Grace which has enabled us to be humble partakers of His AMAZING PROVISION!

I know exactly what you meant when you said "how wonderful it has been to deny the flesh in this very consumeristic culture we are in." By the Lord's grace, we were able to live as simply as possible during seminary and it was as exciting as going out and buying something each time we were able to put money away. What an exciting testimony of the Lord's provision even during these shaky, financial times. I love your excitement and I am very happy with you guys.
