Stellar
Just another glimpse of awesome style being expressed by the Brumbaugh boys. This photo was taken just a moment before we walked into church last Sunday. These boys LOVE ties and I'm wondering if their generation of boys will swing the pendulum back to the suits and ties for church style?? Or maybe its just an infatuation with the little clip. We will wait and see.
Let's Rewind
a minute or two of unsupervised lunchtime...and this is what greeted me:)
(note: this was a moment of slight panic seeing as how we have recently been
given a much taller dining room table and chairs...i think it is called bistro height??...
which we love -the boys feel like they are climbing trees each time they get into their chairs for a meal
...however,a tumble off of this would most certainly land us a very painful memory:)

for those who are wondering...I snapped the first picture and then had Simeon reenact his short lived adventure...which he was more than willing to attempt a second time.
got your giggles on?
well if you don't....hope this little moment I was able to capture on video helps "get yo' giggle on"...it sure got mine and several other shoppers' giggles going
background: I rarely take the boys shopping with me; however, I have wanted to do a leisurely run to Target for months now...and since the prospect of that happening without kiddos looks grim, I decided to make the best of it with my favorite entourage. I was SO relieved when I drove up and the cart with the kiddo seats in front was available...b/c there is nothing more cool than a mom on her "leisurely" run to target trying to maneuver 2 shopping carts around all while keeping 3 BORED kiddos occupied! We had a great time giggling and rushing through this "leisurely" trip, but I got a little side tracked looking at some dishes. As my mind was racing/dreaming away, Titus started telling me that Ezra was wanting his bunk bed. Mind you, this statement was probably said 20 times before my mommy brain stopped ignoring the chatter and picked up the phrase he was saying over and over again....so I corrected him and said no, Ezra doesn't want his bunk bed he wants another cracker...(I'm still looking down at this point). However, Titus just giggled and said no mommy, he wants his bunk bed...and then it clicked! Is he sleeping? I asked through the giggles as I turned on the camera. yes, mommy and its funny....I must agree with Titus, it is pretty funny!
Take 2 - after several attempts to wake him up so that I could push the behemoth cart to the register......this is what happened (please note that he is buckled in...I'm not that mean!)
Needless to say, I could not get him to wake up and I had to maneuver this cart through the store with one hand pushing and steering this cart and one hand holding Ezra's head up. After I got to the checkout...I had to hit the metal on the conveyor belt loudly (with permission from the cashier) in order to get this sleepy shopper to wake up so I could empty the cart and pay.
So I guess I don't need to inform anyone of just how soundly this kiddo sleeps!!
All in all...I had a fabulous "leisurely" shopping trip that I will remember for years and years to come!

...on the flip side...
We all know there are 2 sides to every story....
He got me on this one. Laying so sweetly and patiently as I tended to his older brothers...fooling me with tempting grins that were showcasing his chubby cheeks which were just asking for some kisses from mommy. I lovingly reached down, picked him up, and wrapped my arms around him for a big squeezy hug...and immediately all the sweet little visions in my imagination were interrupted with the balloon word GROSS being popped and flying out of my mouth with great exclamation. (hint-that whole balloon word line only makes sense to those of you who heard my story about swearing in labor/delivery with Simeon)
Simeon is just so stinkin' sweet -- literally
Welcome back, my love!
then you had to go away...
but since the last school bill's been paid...
you are back with me to stay!
Coffee???
but it is so cheap!
yes, but I am not a true coffee drinker. I guess I prefer a little coffee with my flavored creamer...hence the need to "give it up" for the last 5 years. I did enjoy indulging myself when I went home to mom and dad's...but I have been dying for that bill to be done so that I could "pick back up where I left off"...and pick back up I have! Mark has even mentioned to me that he doesn't think I have skipped a cup since February 17th (the day he paid the final payment)...and I will share that I can now drink it with half and half (another luxury staple back in the Brumbaugh home since February 17th) and no sugar! It makes me jittery....and we all know that is one thing I don't need....
**Pottery barn post coming soon**
Summer Cuts
Mark decided it was time for the boys annual summer buzz haircuts. They both did well and although it took a bit longer...we managed to get both boys buzzed with straight lines along the back of their neck's (anyone with little boys knows how amazing this feat truly is!).
These pics were stolen from my friend Nina's facebook. the boys spent last Thursday at Aunt Nina's house (and as Titus so often reminds me...Uncle Michael is not there he is working). They enjoyed the day filled with investigating all sorts of new outlets and knick-knacks. These pics were taken during lunch time...
pb&j in one hand...a pretzel stick in the other.
What more could a 15 month old boy ask for!

this is just a fun goofy shot that I feel captures one of this little guys favorite tricks. Ezra has a very high roof in his mouth...and he LOVES to stick food up there and save it for later. This picture caught him in the act...if you look closely you can see his PB&J squeezed up in the roof of his mouth. No joke...I could write quite a lengthy post about what I have found in the roof of this boys mouth....and even worse...how long he has kept those things hidden in there!!!
My afternoon laugh
Today I spent some time checking my facebook and e-mail. I have been out of town for the last week and I do my best to stay as unconnected and unreachable as possible while I'm away...so this afternoon I spent some time catching up on things...and a friend had sent this to me on facebook. It made me chuckle outloud for a minute...until I was interrupted by my #1 and #2 kiddos who I thought were fast asleep...so much for my "hiding" time today! Even if you don't have children yet...I am sure you have seen this progression take place in the lives of those mommies around you who have multiple kiddos who are close in age!

Swallowing Coins (a favorite):
1st child: When first child swallows a coin (and believe me they will seeing as how by the time they are crawling, you are laid out on the couch with morning sickness from your pregnancy with #2), you rush the child to the hospital and demand x-rays
2nd child: When second child swallows a coin, you carefully watch for the coin to pass.
3rd child: When third child swallows a coin you deduct it from his allowance!

Free-o Rio
Last Sunday, while we were on our way home from church, our windshield wipers quite working. Of course, the rain was coming down ever so steadily, so we pulled over to check the fuse box and do a few troubleshooting tips.
NOTHING... (at least we had a few donuts to snack on while we were stranded...lol)
So, Monday morning our Sedona had to go to the Dr.'s for a check up and what we thought was a fully covered outpatient operation. However, Monday evening we found out that our baby was going to have to stay overnight and that the dealership was reserving a rental car for us.
Needless to say, we were a little giddy getting to drive around a 2009 Kia Rio!

However, it made me even more thankful for my wonderful mini-van!
I know that several moms of my generation are mortified at the thought of driving around a "mom" mobile, but after dealing with car seats and getting into and out of a sedan...my feelings about loving my van were confirmed. It doesn't get much easier than my Sedona's powered sliding doors that are opened for me when I come out with 2 toddlers...and the fact that they slide open instead of open outwardly...WONDERFUL! The day we had the Rio was windy...so I had some very close run ins with parked cars next to me as I awkwardly crouched down to unbuckle my boys. My van is the perfect height...no awkward movements for me to buckle in the boys...and when I need more room, I just fold down a seat. My girl has heated seats...a sun roof...rear control air/heat...door that lock with the push of a button and open and close with the push of a button...and leather...can I just say that there is nothing better than leather when you are dealing with toddlers and their drink cups!
Although we enjoyed the spunky feel of a sedan...we all were glad to pick our girl up from the hospital in wonderful working condition.

Dunkin Donut in the house
There is a new neighbor in our hood...and its initials are DD
Yes indeed! And the Brumbaugh's are able to stay away for the most part...but when the Grandparents come...they whole family gets a treat.
This year for Valentine's day, Titus and Ezra both received a few dollars from their Mamaw and Pip and Grandpa Norman and Mama Lola to spend at Dunkin Donuts...and what a treat it was!
My friend Nina gave me a few coupons that expired March 1st, so we got up extra early Sunday and headed inside the donut shop for a special breakfast together. We had a blast, but I forgot my camera so I couldn't capture the moment on film. Titus' told the ladies at the counter that these donuts were from Mamaw and Pip...then he handed them his dollars...I think the whole shop noticed his excitement. His prayer was so heartfelt as he thanked God for his doughnuts and his Mamaw and Pip...in fact...we probably could have had an invitation for the whole shop after his testimony to God's provision for his special treat. Titus carried the little box into his Sunday School class and shared his leftover munchkins with his friends. His teacher was kind enough to leave 2 munchkins for the boys to enjoy...so Monday morning, they awoke to the last few morsels of their special treat. To top it all off...they got to eat their donuts while looking at some crazy white stuff they had never seen before...Snow!

Hair Care
Thankfully I have no daughters, yet. The haircare required for children is no easy task. I have always had such a strong desire to have my kiddos hair presentable and when God blessed me with Titus and Ezra...I was relieved to know that pony tails, braids, and curls would not have to be part of my daily routine. However, Titus' hair is truly special needs hair...and anyone who has tried to fix it will agree with me. This last July, we buzzed is super short...short enough that I haven't had to cut it since...until last night.
It was so shaggy and unkept looking, so I decided to take matters into my own hand and chop away...because don't think for one minute that I am going to pay for someone else to cut my kid's hair! Anyway...here is the result. Not too bad...but I did lose a little bit of ground in my sanctification process as I tried to snip carefully with kitchen scissors while Titus screamed and acted as though I was performing brain surgery!
Diddle Diddle Dumpling...My son, John....
We had received the carseat a day earlier from some friends and earlier in the day Titus had been playing with the seat and the basket. So, when I asked him to bring me the basket... He tried to get the seat out of it (which I didn't know was stuck inside)...and when it wouldn't come loose (after much grunting and moaning)...he decided to just take a break and get some refreshment from this hard day's work of being mommy's helper!
as a side note...I find it nearly impossible to keep 2 socks on Titus' feet. he tends to slide around if he has 2 socks on, so I often find him with only 1 sock on...the bare foot is his way of insuring he doesn't slip and slide while trying to run in the house...and the socked foot is to appease his mommy who is forever telling him to keep his feet covered to stay warm!
My Little Camel Cricket "C"illing Hero
For those of you who know me well...you know there are a few things I dislike GREATLY! On of the top thing on my list (right under frogs...) is nasty camel crickets. I have been startled by them since I was a kid when one jumped over me while I was laying on the floor watching cartoons. To remedy this fear (as I was not the only female member of my home afraid of these horrible creatures), my dad decided to put out those sticky boards to catch these things as they hopped from one adventuresome place to another. So, on top of being afraid of them and having to see them stuck on these little boards...there were many times that I forgot where the boards were and ended up stepping on top of these nasty "hanging on for dear life" crickets....groooossssssss!
>>>>Fast forward to a few weeks ago.
Mark usually folds the laundry after it has been washed and dried...but this particular week, he was extremely busy and the laundry was starting to pile up in front of the dryer...so I decided that I would fold the clothes before heading out to teach some swim lessons. Titus was standing next to me in the hall as I picked up each piece of the laundry...and wouldn't you know...one of those nasty creatures jumped out of the pile......I yelled...."Oh my gosh that is just gross" to which Titus immediately began repeating..."oh mi goooosh, grosssss" over and over again. I was prancing up and down the hall freaking out and laughing at his immediate response to my startling him. After I got control of myself (good thing the bathroom is right across the hall:), I shook out all the laundry...and then placed it on top of the dryer for Mark to finish up at a later time. I also explained to Titus that mommy reacted instead of acting in that situation....and that he needed to stop saying....oh mi goshhh, grosssss.
>>>>>>Fast Forward to the next morning....
I, again, was in the laundry area switching over a load before heading out to the YMCA. Titus was in the hallway jabbering away and in my subconcious I heard him saying, "Bug, squish it, Bug, squish it.....grosssss". I chuckled thingking that he was remembering our incident from the day before. As I closed the laundery door....I realized that he had single footedly squished that nasty creature that had taunted my sanctification the morning before. He was so proud and kept stomping his foot saying, "Bug, squish it". I cheered for him and told him that he had helped make mommy feel safe...yada yada yada...and I gave him a treat I even though it was 8:15am in the morning) and then we yelled for daddy to come and see the squished bug! I grabbed the camera and snapped a pic as Titus reinacted what had taken place. What a joy it was to see him step up and be a man in order to protect his mommy from another horrible encounter with that nasty creature...the camel cricket!

Nestled
Titus is all over the place! I have enjoyed watching him learn the progression sitting up on his own to crawling around and now to pulling up on anything he thinks is "sturdy" enough to hold him.
However, the process doesn't come without some bumps, bruises, and funny stories. I won't bore you all with too many of these incidents, but I must explain the picture to the left. We are in the process of trying to sell our victorian style living room couch and love seat. These 2 pieces are on these 12" pedestal legs making them ideal for storage; however, once we got the leather couch and chair, we moved the couches around and moved the storage baskets out from underneath of the couches. The love seat is in our bedroom for the time being and this is where our picture story begins.
I was getting ready to go to the grocery store and I let Titus play in the floor with a brown paper bag (to the left of him in the picture). As I was getting ready I could hear him talking and squealing while hitting the brown bag and making lots of noise. I kinda tuned it out for a few minutes and then realized that his noises were more like uncomfortable grunts and groans. I walked over to where I had left him and I didn't see him immediately...but I knew he had to be nearby because I could hear him. I knelt down and this is what I found...I jumped up...like any mom would do... and ran to get the camera. Titus didn't appreciate that very much, but I just laughed and told him I had to document this moment. He smiled for the picture and then because screaming because he was trying to sit up and every time he tried...his head thumped the bottom of the couch. I was laughing so hard that I was afraid I was going to wet my pants...but Titus was not finding much humor in his predicament. I was trying to get him unstuck, but he had wedged himself in there pretty snugly. Needless to say, I had to fold him in half and pull him straight out. Good thing babies are flexible! Let's just say that Titus has not been back under the couch since that incident. I am sitting here laughing out loud as I write this post wishing I would have had a video camera to truly catch the emotion of his predicament. He was screaming...and then he would start laughing...then bump his head and start the cycle all over again! What a hoot. I now have to sign off because I have horrible hiccups from laughing all over again!
